Notchwake battery and energy use
Notchwake lives in the menu bar area all day, so what it costs matters.
What we measured
- CPU at idle: 0.21%.
- Memory: 47 MB.
- Where: a single Mac, a Mac17,3, measured on 2026-10-14. One machine and one measurement, not a benchmark across Macs. Your numbers will differ with what you have turned on.
Why it stays low
Reading accessory batteries stops while the island is hidden and idle. A module that is turned off stops its service. Preferences, Modules shows the cost of each module.
How to measure it on your Mac
- Open Activity Monitor (Applications, Utilities).
- In the search box, type Notchwake.
- On the CPU tab, read the % CPU column. Leave the island closed and the Mac idle for a minute for a fair reading.
- On the Memory tab, read the Memory column.
- On the Energy tab, read Energy Impact and 12 hr Power. Lower is better.
If it is high
Turn off the modules you do not use in Preferences, Modules, and check again. Features that watch something, like Watch a region, work while they are on.
