Notchwake permissions: what each one is for
All permissions are optional. What you do not allow simply does not appear in the island.
Asked at first launch
- Calendar: shows your next events in the island. It writes an event only when you click Create event.
- Reminders: shows today's and overdue reminders, and marks one as done when you tap its circle.
- Automation (Music, Spotify, Notes, terminals): reads the track and controls playback, and jumps to a session's terminal. macOS asks per app, the first time.
Asked only if you use the feature
- Bluetooth: tells you when AirPods or other devices connect, and shows accessory battery. Only after you turn the notice on.
- Camera: the Mirror in the Shortcuts tab, only while it is open. Nothing is recorded unless you click the shutter.
- Microphone and Speech Recognition: dictating a task with Speak, on your Mac with no network.
- Audio from other apps: draws the visualizer bars from Music and Spotify only. Nothing is recorded.
- Screen Recording: Watch a region, which compares a small piece of a window you pick. Nothing is saved.
- Desktop folder: only if you turn on recent screenshots in the tray.
Needs no permission
The microphone and camera in use dot, the volume HUD and the accessory battery read only a yes or no or a level, never audio or video.
How to change one later
- Open System Settings, Privacy & Security.
- Pick the permission (Calendars, Reminders, Automation, Camera and so on).
- Turn Notchwake on or off in the list.
